STEP Reviewer Privacy Policy
STEP Reviewer processes your CAD models on your device. The app does not operate developer analytics, advertising, or user accounts, and it does not upload your models to developer servers. Optional permissions are requested only when you choose the related capture, save, audio, or spatial-anchor action.
What data does STEP Reviewer collect?
STEP Reviewer does not collect or transmit personal data to the developer and does not include advertising or developer analytics SDKs.
- No STEP Reviewer account or sign-in
- No behavioral analytics, advertising, fingerprinting, or cross-app tracking
- No upload of STEP, IGES, screenshots, recordings, measurements, or exports to developer servers
- No sale of personal data
Your files may leave the device only when you explicitly use a system feature such as Share, save to a cloud-backed Files location, or enable a system synchronization service. Those destinations are selected and controlled by you.
How are CAD files processed?
STEP and IGES import, assembly inspection, tessellation, viewport rendering, measurement, sectioning, screenshots, model-view recording, and mesh export are performed locally. Core model review does not require a STEP Reviewer server.
When you choose a file, the app receives access through Apple system file-selection APIs and creates an app-managed working copy in its sandbox. If the source is in iCloud Drive or another file provider, that provider may download or synchronize the file under its own terms; STEP Reviewer does not control that service.
What does STEP Reviewer store on the device?
The app stores recent-model metadata, app-managed imported copies, user preferences, capture settings such as watermark text, measurement state for the active session, and cached StoreKit entitlement information. This data supports reopening models and preserving your chosen settings.
App-managed model copies are stored under the app's Documents/imported directory. Removing an individual recent model or confirming Clear Recent Models removes the corresponding managed copy. Your original source file is not deleted.
Screenshots, recordings, and exports remain at the location you choose. Removing STEP Reviewer does not necessarily remove copies previously saved to Files, Finder, Photos, or a shared destination.
Why does STEP Reviewer request system permissions?
- Selected files and folders: used to open models and save files at locations you choose.
- Microphone: requested only when you enable synchronized narration for a screen or model-view recording.
- Photos on iOS and visionOS: requested only when you choose to save a screenshot or recording to the photo library.
- Screen recording on macOS: requested only when you start the full app-window recording mode. STEP Reviewer records its own app window, not an unattended recording of your device.
- World sensing on visionOS: requested only when you choose a world or horizontal-plane spatial anchor. View-centered spatial review does not require room anchoring.
You can review or revoke permissions in system Settings. A related feature may stop working after permission is denied or revoked, while unrelated model-review features remain available.
How are subscriptions and in-app purchases handled?
Purchases and restores require communication with Apple's App Store services and are subject to Apple's privacy policy and store terms. Entitlements can be restored on supported devices signed in with the same Apple Account.
How can I remove locally stored data?
Use the recent-model controls to remove one managed model or confirm Clear Recent Models to remove all managed recent copies. You can delete saved captures and exports from Files, Finder, or Photos. Uninstalling the app removes its sandbox according to the operating system's behavior.
Because STEP Reviewer does not maintain a developer account or developer-hosted personal-data store, there is no server profile to request or delete.
How will this policy change?
This policy may be updated when product behavior, platform permissions, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
Does STEP Reviewer upload my CAD models?
No. The app does not upload CAD files, derived meshes, captures, or measurements to developer servers. A file may be transferred only when you explicitly choose a cloud-backed location or sharing destination.
What happens when I clear recent models?
After confirmation, STEP Reviewer removes its recent-model records and the corresponding copies inside the app-managed Documents/imported directory. It does not delete the original files you selected.
Does screen recording capture the whole device?
No. STEP Reviewer offers model-view capture, and macOS can additionally capture the STEP Reviewer app window after you explicitly select that recording mode and grant system permission. visionOS capture is described as Model View Capture and does not promise recording the surrounding spatial environment.
Is microphone audio recorded automatically?
No. Microphone access and narration are used only when you enable synchronized audio in recording settings and then start a recording.
Does STEP Reviewer see my payment information?
No. Apple handles billing. STEP Reviewer receives StoreKit entitlement information needed to determine which features are unlocked.
